Job Summary:

Assist senior laboratory staff with routine laboratory procedures, including processing, storage, and retrieval of specimens.

What You’ll be Doing:

• Provide administrative and technical support to the lab.
• Maintain glassware for the laboratory by washing, rinsing, drying, distributing, and storing items such as test tubes, beakers, flasks, and cylinders.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, including disinfecting workbenches, materials, equipment, and other laboratory areas.
• Prepare and sterilize laboratory supplies, equipment, and other materials.
• Responsible for tube labeling and preparation.
• Facilitate post-analysis storage and sample banking.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance.
• Make simple buffers for lab prep.

What We Are Looking For:

• High School Diploma or equivalent. (Some CAP/CLIA lab locations may require an Associate Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution).
• 0-6 months of relevant work experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of practices and principles used in the laboratory.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices, including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling.
• Other Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed for This Role:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting, close eye work requirement (computer, typing, reading small prints). Physical demands vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. Occasional exposure to cold temperatures.
• Basic knowledge of general rules for safe exposure to chemical and blood-borne pathogens.
• Basic knowledge of sterilization and decontamination procedures and hazardous waste management.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and terminology.
